Warm winter wedding invitations and ideas for your November wedding

06 Nov

Your November wedding can be a rich and warm affair. While the weather might not be warm, you can still convey those cozy feelings with the right colors and flavors of the seasons.

Invitations
November is filled with rich earth tones, bright oranges and yellows and even deep reds. Pick these colors for your wedding invitations and you’ll have a elegant and seasonal invitation. Traditional symbols of the season include cornucopias, pumpkins and gourds. Add in these designs and colors for a warm, classic November look.

Thanksgiving is a big November holiday you’ll need to be aware of. Some of your guests who already have Thanksgiving travel plans might be reluctant to travel to your wedding also. Two trips in the same month might be a little much for some. If this is a concern for your wedding, you might want to consider hosting your wedding on Thanksgiving weekend.

Have a traditional Thanksgiving dinner on Thursday and then switch into wedding mode for the weekend. If you’re not interested in a Thanksgiving weekend, you’ll need to make sure you get your wedding invitations and save the dates in the mail as soon as possible. Advance planning gives your guests time to plan and hopefully make plans to get to your wedding reception.

Ceremony and reception
November weather will almost assuredly keep your ceremony and reception indoors. However, if you’ve got your heart set on an outdoor setting, make sure you rent sufficient space heaters and maybe even a canopy or tent. After your outdoor ceremony, move your guests indoors for the reception, or at least have some indoor space available. You can’t ever count on the weather cooperating, so make sure you have an alternate plan. Send a note with your wedding invitation letting your guests know your plans, too.

Given the chilly weather, you might want to make sure your bridesmaids and attendants are dress accordingly. Once you pick out your dresses, you might want to give them an option with sleeves or a shawl. Keep it stylish and functional and they’ll look great and thank you for it, too.

Keep your November wedding menu on the hearty side. If the weather is chilly, your guests will be looking forward to a hot, hearty meal. Since most guests will be getting their fill of turkey, stuffing and potatoes, steer clear of those options. A steak dish paired with risotto can be a great choice. Ask your caterer for some seasonal ideas.

Choose a spiced or mulled wine for a special accent to your bar. This can be served warm or chilled. Rich and big red wines can match your menu choices also. If you’re looking for a signature cocktail, try something with a cranberry twist.

Candle light can also make your reception seem warmer. A few well-placed votives can go a long way to make your ceremony and reception feel homey and snug. Use candles not only at the ceremony, but incorporate them into your centerpiece, on the buffet and even on the cake table for a warm glow all over the room.

Warm up your October wedding with rich wedding invitations and ideas

19 Sep

Your October wedding can be warm and cozy despite the weather turning colder. Seek out the rich colors and patterns of the season for your wedding invitations and reception décor for a stylish look. Tap into the fresh fall foods and you’ll have a delicious and seasonal menu perfect for your big day in October.

Invitations
Many think only of orange and black then they think of October. But the truth is that many rich colors and earth tones can go perfectly with your October wedding invitation. Match the changing leaves with reds, oranges, yellows and browns. Pair those colors with an opulent pattern like damask and you’ve got a lavish invitation for your October wedding. If orange is your color, don’t be afraid to use it. It doesn’t have to be paired with black – making it look like a Halloween card. Choose a fiery orange and pair with cream or brown invitation and you’ll have a fall look that doesn’t even hint at Halloween.

Traditionally, the second Monday of October is Columbus Day. This might be a great chance to extend your wedding weekend if you and your guest typically have a day off for Columbus Day. Before picking your date and sending your wedding invitations, you might want to consult a Jewish calendar as there are a few Jewish holidays in the month of October. And, of course, Halloween is on October 31st. Unless you are planning a Halloween themed wedding, you might want to steer clear of getting married on this day.

Ceremony and reception
The October chill will drive most brides indoors for their ceremony and reception. But don’t let this squelch your creativity. You might want to pick an indoor location that has a hearth or fireplace where you can perform your ceremony. If you’re bringing the colors of the season into your ceremony, add some votive candles and accent with dried leaves to make your indoor ceremony feel like it is outside in nature.

October is harvest time and your menu should reflect those seasonal flavors. Start your meal with a warm soup or bisque instead of a cold salad. Your entrée should be hot hearty also. If you’re not a big red meat eater, you might want to try a warm, creamy chicken dish and grilled seasonal vegetables – think squash, carrots, zucchini and potatoes. For an additional cozy accent, consider seating your guests at long ‘harvest’ tables for family-style service.

Your bar should include some big, rich red wines that will compliment your menu. For a signature cocktail try a pumpkin martini. Pumpkin liqueur can be hard to find, but worth it for a great fall drink. If you can’t find it, ask your cater to provide you with a sweetened pumpkin puree or a pumpkin syrup. Add a hot cider for a warm non-alcoholic option.

Flowers
October’s blooms can be limited in some areas. Your best bet might be to pick the colors you want and ask your florist to come up with some looks for you. Gerbera daisies are usually not hard to find and can be found in many colors. Roses are also another safe bet and available in lots of colors and shades. If you’re sticking with fall hues, you might consider the Alstromeria, Snapdragons or Sunflowers.

Your October wedding doesn’t have to revolve around Halloween. Rely on the great colors and fantastic flavors of the season that will treat your guests to a rich and cozy October wedding.

Warm up your February wedding with red-hot wedding invitations and ideas

16 Sep

When one thinks of February, the first thing that comes to mind is often Valentine’s Day.  While this can be a great theme for any wedding, the month of February can also offer a wide variety of themes.  If Valentine’s Day is not your style, consider a bright winter theme or even a Mardi Gras theme for your wedding.  The sky is the limit when you plan your wedding for February

Wedding invitations and themes

If you do decide on a Valentine’s theme for your wedding, start off with a red or pink wedding invitation.  Get your guests in the Valentine’s mood with this color family and even symbols and images that fit; for example big hearts and cupids are the perfect symbol for not only the holiday, but for your wedding as well.

If your style is not quite in-line with Valentine’s Day, you can still start with a great wedding invitation.  February is still winter and a snowy wonderland wedding theme can be just perfect.  Opt for bright white to mirror the snow and add in your own accent color.  It doesn’t have to be all red hearts for your wedding invitations.

Typically Mardi Gras falls in February and this can be a great, fun theme for your wedding and wedding invitations.  Mardi Gras colors are gold, purple and green.  Whether you use them together or pick one as an accent color, you’ll have stylish and festive wedding invitations and accents.  Mardi Gras always seems to give off a very festive and decadent vibe, translating this to your wedding reception can be the perfect theme for your reception.

Menu and beverages

With the winter weather you might want to consider a hearty menu.  If you’re keeping with a Valentine’s theme, consider a plated menu a deux; pairing delicious seasonal items on the plate.  Beyond that, your winter options are endless.  Think hearty as the chilly weather will make a warm meal seem even more delicious.  Maybe start with a hot soup course and continue with a steak or even pork in a rich gravy or mushroom sauce.  A Mardi Gras theme will require a Cajun menu for authenticity’s sake.  Consult with your caterer for the freshest ideas.

Your bar and beverages can run from the very standard to the wildly unique.  Stock wines that will pair well with your menu and think about some signature drinks as well.  Pomegranate or cranberry cocktails offer the red to match your valentine’s theme.  A Mardi Gras cocktail can be anything from Hurricanes, Mai Tais or any bourbon concoction.  More winter treats can come from a custom coffee and hot chocolate bar, too.  Don’t forget its still winter and your guests might enjoy a warm beverage on a chilly winter night.

February is more than just for Valentines, although, that can be a great theme, too.  Pick your wedding details and wedding invitations based on the elements from the season that really speak to you and you’ll have a stylish and unique ceremony and reception.  And keep your guests cozy and satisfied with a hearty menu and beverages and you’ll have an unforgettable February wedding.
