If you’re a bride-to-be and have found what you think are just the right wedding favors for your reception, then you’re to be congratulated. Many brides take hours and hours to sift through literally hundreds of choices, and are so overwhelmed that they may feel as if they’ll never make a decision!

But when you look at those beautiful favors, are you sure they’ll express your true personality and fit in well with the décor and theme of your reception? Even the most beautiful store-bought wedding favors should have some sort of personal touch added to make them fit the tone of your wedding and to make them special and unique just to you.

So how can you add that personal touch to your favors, without spending hours of your time before the big day and without breaking your budget? There are actually a few easy ways you can go about doing this.

Many brides opt for personalization with their favors, such as having their names and wedding date added. Whether it’s bottle stoppers or paperweights or personalized candy bar wrappers, adding your name and your groom’s name, along with the date of your wedding, is always a good idea. If you have the option, add an additional line that is special to the two of you. It can be anything from “Happiness is not a destination, it’s a journey,” to “Love doesn’t make the world go around – it just makes the ride worthwhile.” Anything that expresses your feelings, if there’s room for it, can be added.

If you can’t add any more personalization to your wedding favors, think of how you dress them up and present them. Most favors come boxed, but just handing them out like that isn’t very special. Invest in some rolls of very festive wrapping paper that is a beautiful silver or gold, or another color and shade that fits your wedding’s theme. If you’re having an autumn wedding, you can use warmer shades of brown and rusty red. Tie them with wide ribbon; if you can’t find any at your gift wrap store, try a fabric store. Get creative with your ribbon – if you have a winter wedding or a very formal affair, try strings of crystal beads. Wedding favors for casual outdoor affairs can be tied with thick twine. Or purchase some bows you can tape or glue right to the wrapped box.

To make your wedding favors very personal once you wrap them, consider composing a short verse and printing it out in a nice font, then rolling it up and tucking it under your ribbon or bow.

The presentation of your wedding favors can also go a long way toward giving it that personal touch. If you’re making them part of your table’s place setting, arrange them in the middle of each guest’s plate, or put them next to the wine or water glasses, or arrange them in another way that makes them seem as if they are truly part of the table decorations. Don’t just pile them up in the middle of the table; or if you do, make sure the arrangement is eye-pleasing and arranged purposely. This too can be very lovely if you wrap your wedding favors in that festive wrapping paper that matches your wedding’s theme or décor – your favors are now doubling as a centerpiece!

If you aren’t leaving the wedding favors on the table, you may have someone assigned to hand them out as guests leave. For more casual wedding receptions where you have no coat check room or waiters that can do this, set a beautiful table by the exit door and drape it with a nice tablecloth that matches the other tables in the room. Arrange the favors decoratively on this; again, don’t just pile them in the middle of the table as if they’re an afterthought. The deejay or someone else can make an announcement to the guests that they should help themselves as they leave.

Remember, this table will be one of the last things they remember as they walk out the door, so make sure it’s as presentable and lovely as your other tables. Sprinkle some confetti along the rim, or tie a big ribbon and bow around it. If you’re using a table such as this, you may not be able to wrap your favors with ribbon and bows as they may get crushed from having to put them in a stack, but still put them in beautiful and festive wrapping paper.

Remember that your wedding favors really express your appreciation to your guests for being such an important part of your big day, so put the same amount of thought into how you’ll present these items to your guests as you would for any other gift you give someone. This way, you’re sure to have added a nice touch of class and personality to any store-bought wedding favor.
