Can you give me some tips on creative but cheap wedding favors?

01 Sep

I’m looking for under 5 dollars a head. My colors are black and white with red roses. I believe the favors is a great place for me to cut back on the budget, but I’m really not that creative. I wanted to buy everyone a bottle of wine, but I think 15 dollars a head is a bit excessive for a favor.
nova-Great Idea!

Turdo-I have a pure white dress—no chocolate.

Tips and suggestions about July wedding?

07 Jun

Planning wedding which will be in July of 2010. The theme is a bit of wildlife/nature/hunting, etc. I know not to do the hunting part too much or to over due the theme. I have asked this here before and gotten a couple of good ideas, and have also done searches myself and found very little, so I have decided to ask again and see if anyone has more decor, favor, colors, etc. ideas that they would like to share.
Thank you!
Oh geeze… I am not asking for your opinion of whether it sounds like a good idea, if I should do it or not, or your opinion on hunting. I am asking for tip and suggestions on decor and more; if you have nothing to offer with what brain you are hopefully supplied with, then please move on to waste someone elses time.

Decorating savvy people ONLY–wedding shower using bright colors- need decorating tips?

03 Jun

I’m hosting a bridal shower and the bride’s colors are bridesmaids in black w/ fuschia sash/bow things around the waist. The flowers are bright pink, citrus orange and lime green. I really want to use her colors for my decorating motif. However, when I get these colors together, it ends up looking like a birthday party. I want it to be very elegant and sorta classy.

I want some real, professional tips on how to use these colors for WOW effect.

I thought maybe just centering on the fuschia and using a print plate of pink and green floral, striped napkins…I need table ideas, like a cool Martha Stewart way to use not so obvious complimentary colors for the table cloth.

Maybe a tan canvas table cloth, big bright bouquet of flowers, and pink accents? Yeah, yeah- ideas like that!

More, more!!!! I’ll give you the BEST ANSWER if it sweeps me off my feet!

Eco friendly wedding tips?

29 May

Hey all
I am planning a super eco friendly wedding, and am fast running out of ideas. here is what I am doing so far- please give me your input and more ideas!!

-local dj to cut down on gas used for his travel (same with the caterer and photograper)
-locally sourced food (from the caterer) and organic and free range when at all possible
-outdoor ceremony with acoustic music (no electricity needed)
-recyclable platesl, napkins, cutlery made from bamboo
-my gown is organic cotton
-the confetti being thrown is eco friendly and totally biodegradeable when it gets wet
-the confetti is being given out in seeded paper cones that grow flowers when you plant them
-no favors, a donation is being made to a local sick kids hospital instead (guests will be made aware of this by cards placed at their tables)
-invites are printed on “tree free” paper cards, postage being used is bought and a donation made to the world wildlife fund…
-flowers used are local and in season…

Any tips for planning a wedding while in college?

28 May

My fiance proposed to me last weekend after two years of dating, and we have decided that our wedding will be in September 2010. I’m a junior in college now, will be a senior when we get married. He has already finished school and has a job. Does anyone have any tips for planning a wedding? I will already be really busy with school and can use any ideas/tips available. I know it would make more sense to wait until I graduate and have more time to plan, but we feel that a year and 2 month engagement is long enough. I’m going straight to graduate school and we dont want to wait 3-4 years for the wedding, and we don’t want to get married during summer or winter breaks.

Any wedding decoration tips…….?

10 May

We are having a sort of English tea party garden party style wedding, the ceremony is inside (as it’s in the UK it has to be) the house is not gigantic but it’s a small country manor house and has a lot of the original items and features that were there when the family owned it from the late 1700′s to now. I don’t need to do lots of decoration in the house but would like to add a few weddingy touches for the ceremony room, which is painted cream with a dark wood floor. Has anyone got any hints, tips or ideas?

Also any ideas for the table decorations would be great, our budget isn’t huge and I’m quite creative so anything I could do myself would be good.

Tips for Red Necks?

26 Apr

IN GENERAL
1. Never take a beer to a job interview.
2. Always identify people in your yard before shooting at them.
3. It’s considered tacky to take a cooler to church.
4. If you have to vacuum the bed, it is time to change the sheets.
5. Even if you’re certain that you are included in the will, it is
still considered tacky to drive a U-Haul to the funeral home.

DINING OUT
1. When decanting wine, make sure that you tilt the paper cup, and pour
slowly so as not to “bruise” the fruit of the vine.
2. If drinking directly from the bottle, always hold it with your
fingers covering the label.

ENTERTAINING IN YOUR HOME
1. A centerpiece for the table should never be anything prepared by a
taxidermist.
2. Do not allow the dog to eat at the table…no matter how good his
manners are.

PERSONAL HYGIENE
1. While ears need to be cleaned regularly, this is a job that should
be done in private using one’s OWN truck keys.
2. Proper use of toiletries can forestall bathing for several days.
However, if you live alone, deodorant is a waste of good money.
3. Dirt and grease under the fingernails is a social no-no, as they
tend to detract from a woman’s jewelry and alter the taste of her
finger foods.

DATING (Outside the Family)
1. Always offer to bait your date’s hook, especially on the first date.
2. Be aggressive. Let her know you’re interested: “I’ve been wanting to
go out with you since I read that stuff on the fillin’ station bathroom
wall two years ago.”
3. Establish with her parents what time she is expected back. Some will
say 10:00 PM; Others might say “Monday.” If the latter is the answer,
it is the man’s responsibility to get her to school on time.

THEATER ETIQUETTE
1. Crying babies should be taken to the lobby and picked up immediately
after the movie has ended.
2. Refrain from talking to characters on the screen. Tests have proven
they can’t hear you.

WEDDINGS
1. Livestock, usually, is a poor choice for a wedding gift.
2. Unless you are the groom, kissing the bride for more than 5 seconds
may get you shot.
3. For the groom, at least, rent a tux. A leisure suit with a
cummerbund
and a clean bowling shirt can create a tacky appearance.
4. Though uncomfortable, say “yes” to socks and shoes for this special
occasion.

DRIVING ETIQUETTE
1. Dim your headlights for approaching vehicles; Even if the gun is
loaded, and the deer is in sight.
2. When approaching a four-way stop, the vehicle with the largest tires
always has the right of way.
3. Never tow another car using panty hose and duct tape.
4. When sending your wife down the road with a gas can, it is impolite
to ask her to bring back beer.
5. Do not give a bl*w job while traveling in a funeral procession.

I need some tips and date ideas for Valentines Day?

21 Apr

I’ve been dating this girl for about 2 weeks now and it’s the first time I’ve had a girlfriend on Valentines Day. I know what to do for dinner, but I don’t know where to take her for a show or date before dinner. What should I do?

We live in Rochester Michigan in case anybody knows that area.
Should I buy her her favorite flower? Or is that cheesy?

Tips for planning a cheap wedding.?

12 Apr

Ok so we have the basics down.

Along with our large wedding we are having a smaller wedding with my very close family and his families close friends and family. This is an Indian Hindu wedding to respect and honor his heritage and families faith. We have the basics down…

Rentals (tent, fans and air conditioning, china, glasses, chairs, silverware, linens, tables & dance floor)

$2,000

Caterers (they also provide chafing dishes and servers. Include appetizer, naan, parentha, 3 veg dish, 2 meat, 2 rice, and 2 dessert. Coffee, tea, and lassi)

$2,000

DJ (with Indian mc)

$950

Flowers for Mundup, and garlands

$750

Bar (open bar, sodas, and water)

$1,000

Invites (RSVP cards, and postage include.)

$350

My father is building our Mundup and fire plate for us, we are not including our clothing in the budget. This leaves only $3,500 for everything else. Ok so my question is

What can I do for favors, and centerpieces on such a tight budget (about 100
people, 10 tables)?

What is left that I am forgetting?

I should mention I am Italian American, so I really don’t know what is to be included…
Actually for the Indian DJ in northern NJ this is one of the cheapest we could find. They go from about 900-2100. So that kind of sucks.. haha

I should mention also have a photographer
