Offbeat wedding ideas for music lovers?

14 Aug

My fiance and I really love music and we want a simple wedding. I’ve never really been thrilled with the idea of a huge church wedding. We want to keep it laid back and fun. The wedding party & guests will probably be under 10 people. I actually like alot of the Vegas styled weddings – helicopter ride, gondola ride, etc. They seem really fun, but we probably won’t be getting hitched in Vegas. If you could spin ideas like that though, it would help.

Can anyone help with my wedding music selection (Hawaiian/Luau/Beach theme)?

04 Jun

Hi everyone! Well, we have a Hawaiian Luau themed wedding coming up with live band, dancers, BBQ and all… but the band will not be playing during dinner which is about 45min long before the Luau starts. So we just thought we would burn a CD of songs for it. We want song types such as “Kokomo” by The Beach Boys, “Somewhere Over The Rainbow” by Israel Kamakawi, “When The Sun Goes Down” by Kenny Chesney… and so on. We are having the toughest time finding enough music. Any beach sounding, reggae, ukulele, popular hawaiian types songs. Please don’t just say Bob Marley or anything. I need specific song titles. I am only 24, so these type of songs are not my expertise! :)

Thank you all so so much!!!

Can I ask my wedding DJ to play music for the ceremony as well?

03 May

I’m having an outdoor wedding with the reception and ceremony all taking place at the same location. Can I ask the DJ to play the ceremony music as well? I don’t have it in my budget to hire musicians for the ceremony, but I don’t want to do it without any music at all.

beach wedding music ideas?

29 Apr

Does anyone know of any good beach theme songs for me to walk down to at my wedding? So far i have these 2 for while they are walking out. I have 6 of each plus the flower girl and ring bearer so it might take a while. I want to have one extra just in case. These are the 2 I have so far…different and better versions though. The sea of love on YouTube songs strange.

What can I do about wedding music without hiring a DJ?

26 Apr

OK I’m really anti-DJ, I think it’s trite and lowbrow and I don’t like their banter and volume at weddings and other events. My fiance and I are coming up with good organized playlists for our cocktail hour and reception, so all we really need are speakers and a mic. His cousin can announce us as bride and groom and introduce the wedding party at the start of the reception, and the only other thing would be the dessert announcement and best man’s toast. I really just want to rent PA and a mic and hook up a laptop to it and let it run but then if it breaks there’s no one there to fix it from the rental company. I won’t hire a band because that steals even more focus from the event than a DJ. I’m hiring 2-3 string pieces for the ceremony and part of the cocktail hour, then the canned music will start. If we did hire a DJ, it would just be someone to babysit the equipment all night, make 2 whole announcements, but their music would not be allowed because we are doing that ourselves. What other options do I have to amplify the music and keep in mind I live 5 hours from where I’m getting married so I can’t run all over town talking to rental companies or DJ’s.

Wedding videographers what do you think I should do in this case regarding music for a video?

23 Mar

I had this client a few weeks ago who asked me to have specific songs for every part of the wedding video. I agreed, but after a while I realized that there were different styles of music for every part of the video. Electronic, jazz, eclectic, etc. making the video wedding very odd. I new client watched this wedding video and told me she didnt like the music. She hired somebody else.
Now, what should be the best way to deal with music for wedding videos knowing that the difference of stiles can ruin the whole thing?
Thankyou.
The music dictates the pace and rythm of the editing. I am looking forward to choose the music I think is the best.

Help with music for wedding & reception?

12 Mar

I am pretty much at the beginning point of planning my wedding. It is going to be something small with a party/reception after wards where more people will be attending.

We are trying to do this and make it as affordable as possible. What do I need to consider as far as music? I don’t really know anything about planning a wedding or what the “guidelines” are for what is done. When music is played, and what type of music to play. I have been reading that people choose certain songs for the cutting of the cake, first dance, father/daughter dance, etc. What all do I need to consider? What points during a wedding and reception do people choose certain songs for?
I was considering doing something by computer where a bunch of different songs we choose are played in an order we choose. How does this sound? Anyone have experience on this one?
We are doing a wilderness/nature type theme. Our date will be in July of 2010. The wedding will probably be outside and the reception at another location inside. We like a mixture of music ranging from oldies, country, R&B, some rap, alternative, and some metal.
Any other ideas would be appeciated. Thank you!
