Where can I buy cheap alarm clocks for centerpieces?

29 Aug

I’m getting married on new years eve, and wanted to buy some vintage looking alarm clocks for centerpieces and various decor. Kind of like what’s in this picture…

They can be various shapes and sizes, and do not have to work. But I need them very cheep, maybe a dollar or two, since I will need a lot of them. I know I can look on ebay, yard sales, etc. But I’m really looking for more of a wholesale place. Thanks in advance!

Cheap but pretty flower centerpieces?

23 Aug

I would love more than anything to have floral centerpieces for my wedding, but I know that can get pretty expensive. My colors are purple, white and black. What kinds of flowers are the cheapest, but are still pretty? I’m going to have about 45 tables at the wedding so it’s not something that I can spend a lot on each centerpiece.
I have over 350 guests each table holds 8.

Inexpensive, yet classy looking centerpieces?

08 Jun

More than 50% of my budget is going towards the food and drink at my venue. This leaves very little money for more fancy centerpieces and decor items. I’m OK with that. I’d rather have good food, then $50 centerpieces.

It’s costing about $75 a person at my venue and the wedding overall is semi-formal and taking place in the evening. I’ve opted to do a black and white color pattern. The wedding is in August and overlooking a harbor.

I want the centerpieces to look nice and classy, not cheap. But, I also don’t want to spend a ton of money. What are some affordable options for DIY centerpieces. I have to double check with the venue, but I don’t think they allow candles. But, I could be mistaken.

What are some ideas with and without candles and about how much will each centerpiece and decor idea cost?

What’s considered a reasonable cost for a DIY centerpiece?
I’m thinking about doing hints of aqua to add a little color.

Bamboo Centerpieces?

08 Jun

I was brainstorming some non-expensive DIY centerpieces… I am really ticked about paying for flowers that are going to die in a week so I thought why not do bamboo centerpieces they don’t die (if you take care of them) and double as great favors so I was thinking this…

Buying Bamboo stems and cutting them into 3 sets of 3 different heights. Then, buying three different height squared vases and fill them up with wedding color crystals) and doing the following…

Each table would have 3 square centerpieces of different heights.

The tallest vase would include crystals with 3 bamboo stems and I would add 3 stems of orchids to add color and definition.

The medium vase would include crystals and 3 Bamboo stems and I would add 5 roses tied together down the stems with a colored ribbon.

Then the smallest vase would be 3 bamboo stems and 3 lilies placed on the corner.

What do you guys think? I know it may be a little difficult to visualize but would also like you opinions. I think this is an affordable easy DIY project with lots of height and variation with little flowers as possible therefore it won’t be such a large flower expense.

FYI- My colors are pink and green (inspired by orchids I love orchids) and the ceremony is on a ranch style home outdoors with a ceremony outside by a fountain. And the actual reception under a large gazebo with a beautiful wood detailed roof.

My fiancé and I are also very simple laid back outgoing people.

DIY wedding centerpieces?

07 Jun

The wedding is in October; tables are long; evening reception. Wanted to know of any websites (besides Michaels Crafts) that had creative wedding crafts to do. I also am NOT going to do the typical wedding centerpiece with a glass bowl and floating candles on top of rocks, so please don’t suggest that anymore =)

Where can I find pie stands for wedding centerpieces?

26 May

I’m having pies for desserts at my wedding in November of 2009, and am using single pies with votive candles for my centerpieces. I’m looking for pie stands that are lifted. Either glass pie stands with a top, or iron pie stands that don’t have a cover. Either way I’d need to buy or rent up to 15 of them. Is anyone selling, renting or know when I can find some pie stands?

Thanks for any help!

Ready to just not have centerpieces?

18 May

When I first got engaged, I came up with the idea of making origami ikebana centerpieces. I thought they would be pretty, and different, but now everyone is accusing me of being cheap, and saying nasty things like fake flowers have no place in a wedding unless you’re white trash. I wasn’t trying to be cheap and I’m ready to just not have centerpieces at all. My plan was to make them look like this http://www.oribana.com/images/Spring_Breathing.jpg but in a glass vase. If you went to a wedding with centerpieces like this would you talk behind my back about “cheap” I was, or appreciate the time and creativity that I I put into them?
