What was you wedding cake like?

While I’ve been planning my own wedding, I’ve started to wonder what everyone else’s cake looked like? Or what you want your future cake to be like? What flavors did you use? The cake that we are planning is going to be 4 square layers with white frosting (or possibly fondant…) seperated by pink, yellow, and white roses with lace and pearl designs. We’re planning on the each layer being a different flavor, spice, chocolate with rasberry filling, white with lemon filling and red velvet.

It will be similar to this one. (not exactly obviously, but this is the picture that I showed the designer.)

If anyone has any photos of theirs of of their dream cake please post them, I’d love to see them! Thank you!

What are some good ideas for a wedding cake?

Ok my fiance and I are planning our wedding. We hope to have our wedding next to a river in Alabama. Our colors are Chocolate and turquoise blue. What would be some ideas for the wedding cake? I want to keep it traditional but in the same way kidda incorporate our theme into the cake. Just nothing over the top. You know?

Has anyone ever attempted/succeeded in making their own wedding cake?

We ordered two large sheet cakes for all of the guests from Costco (low budget wedding) and I was thinking of getting a 3 tiered cake pan set….making the cake myself and using the frosting from a bakery. the frosting would be white or red If it is white i am going to put roses around the cake where the layers meet and i have a very cute cake topper to put on top. if the frosting is red (i dont even know if thats possible lol) i would use white daisies. any suggestions/ideas/opinions? please dont say to have it done professionally. we cannot afford that and our wedding is in 12 days :-) thank you so much!

Wedding cake vs. Sheet cake?

I had a sheet cake at the wedding as a backup in case we ran out of cake.

I hate assuming, but i’d been told by so many people that wedding cake is served and if there isn’t enough to go around they’d cut into the sheet cake.
Well they cut and served the sheet cake first and alot of my guests (afterwards) asked me what happened to the flavors we’d chosen, come to find out alot of people got the sheet cake and not the wedding cake. We also asked the catering director to have the staff cut two pieces from each layer so we could try all flavors (we had white chocolate with strawberry filling, chocolate with chocolate ganach filling and then red velvet with cream cheese filling).. we never got that either.

Has anyone heard of them serving the sheet cake first?
fizzy we did not receive our two pieces each :(

Do you like my wedding cake?

Some of the things that WILL be different are: Instead of the paste like flowers, they will be real red roses and stephanotis, and there wont be hearts at the bottom & top, instead it will say Ashley & Chris 12-21-07… Or something like that.. No cake topper, just more flowers instead.
I think it will be a vanilla bean cake, rasberry filling and buttercream frosting..
What do you think? Any suggestions?

What Does Your Dream Wedding Cake Look Like?

What does your dream wedding cake look like? Or if you’re already married, what did yours look like?

Ours is going to be similar to this one, except it will be pearled and the flowers will be yellow, red, and light orange roses.

Wedding cake, what do you think?

Hey all, I have been compiling different aspects of wedding cakes that I like to figure out what I want in a wedding cake. What do you think of these things?

I like the look of falling fabric on this one, but thats it.

I’m planning on a fall wedding and my colors are mostly likely going to be a deep red, browns, creamy ivory, and maybe oranges(but only in the flowers) to match the season, but I haven’t decided yet…what do you all think?
I was planning on trying to include each of the aspects I said I liked from the individual cakes without making it too busy.
Phaylynn: Good call, I hadn’t even thought of the fact that those folds would create a wall of frosting!

Wedding Cake Question?

I have been doing some research on weddings and came up with an idea. Instead of purchasing a cake and centerpieces, would it be tacky if I had small wedding cakes backed and decorated to act as centerpieces? I was thinking they could be up on little pedestals and decorated with roses/other red items as that is the color scheme of my wedding. It would enable the guests to help themselves to the cake. I would have a larger one for the head table that is more lavishly decorated and would still have a cake cutting ceremony though. Does this seem tacky or innovative? Also, design ideas would be great!
I was going to have a slightly larger cake for the head table that was decorated, and the smaller cakes could be a solid color (red) with a couple simple butter cream roses

Cupcake Wedding cake… Daisies??! Ideas Help!!!?

So I’m going with a gerber daisy theme. Red and White daisies.. with clover green dresses.. i want to do a cupcake wedding cake.. but I want to do something simple.. yet elegant.. anyone with ideas send them my way!! Pictures would be awesome! Thanks in advance!!
I’d like to go a little bit of a cheaper route.. thats why i’m looking at cupcakes.. and I’m looking at about 125 guests.

help i have to make a wedding cake in 1 week and it has to have red roses on it which would be fine but i have tried and tried but i can’t get my gum paste (for the roses)dark enough i need really dark red gum paste plz help!!

Any elegant cake toppers other than mongrammed?

I would love to find something to go with my January Old Hollywood feel wedding that is elegant and sparkly, but no monograms. I’ve waded through at least 30 sites so far and either they only have the cheesy bride and groom, or the price is well over a hundred dollars. Any suggestions?

which batter should i use for a wedding cake?!?

I want to know which is one tastes better, which one is the best one for making a wedding cake, which one is the most popular one, for carving it, filling it … etc etc …

which one should i use/make ???
Basic yellow cake, butter cake, sponge cake or Red Velvet Cocoa Cake. ??????????????????

Which one will make people go, WOWWWWWWWWWWWWW ???

oh and by the way, im asking this , cuz my uncle asked me to make his wedding cake, and im only used to making/baking pastries and regular cakes, not wedding cakes but i got a pretty good idea of what i want, and i draw it into a piece of paper , all i know to this point is that it will be square, 5 to 10 cm high, and that i will cover it with fondant and that ill make some swirl designs in it and make some flowers with royal icing, etc…

thank you guys, i think im going to actually stick to the yellow/white sponge cake and fill it with my “delicious” raspberry filling, or with the red velvet one, thanks all.

I’m not a fan of vanilla or chocolate wedding cake. But I still want a cake. What are some other options for cake that most people will like. Lemon? Red Velvet?

Needing some wedding cake advice?

Ok I picked a square 3 tier wedding cake. The decorator is going to a 10-8-6 cake and is going to do the top and bottom square with the crisscross with dragees and the middle with just dragees, there will be ribbons around the bottom of each tier as well, will this look ok? Also I’m trying to decide what kind of cake topper to do, monogram,flowers, or what? Our wedding colors are black,fuchsia, and ivory so any cake advice and ideas would help out so much. I can email the pics I’ve came up with so far if any of you are interested in seeing and giving me your advice..Thanks!
this isn’t the exact wedding cake but it is an good example of the crisscross and dragees. my ribbon will be black and if i do flowers as a topper they will be the fuchsia??
