Are there any websites or resources that make planning wedding bouquets any easier?

14 Aug

I’m very overwhelmed by how many flowers there are. All I know is that I want large, bright and inexpensive bouquets for my bridal party.

So I’m trying to figure out large, cheap blue flowers, purple flowers, and green..things to fill. The wedding is in October.

Are there websites or books that help with this?

Website with cheap, but good flower bouquets?

23 May

I want to get my mom some flowers for Mother’s day to show that I appreciate her. The problem is that I can’t get to a florist shop, and I’m pretty much broke at the moment. Most delivery websites ask a fortune for one bouquet of flowers! Like, $50 for some carnations! Is there a website that doesn’t charge so much, and delivers?

Bouquets for a Beach Wedding?

11 May

My best friend is planning her beach wedding for May 2010 and she doesn’t like Roses. Tulips are my favorite flower, I love them, and when I mentioned that to her when we were talking about flowers for the wedding she said that Tulips are one of her favorites as well. As of right now, she is planning to use Tulips (red and white because those are the colors she is using for the wedding), however, I don’t know if that would look right for a beach wedding. It’s her wedding, so whatever makes her happy is great by me, but she asked my opinion about it and it’s been bothering me ever since. For a beach wedding I think of Lilies, more tropical looking flowers. What kind of flower, that comes in red and white, would you suggest for a beach wedding?
Auntie.Bean… The wedding is in May, so I don’t think it would be a problem to get Tulips, I just don’t think they would look the best for the type of wedding she is having. Anyway, thank you for all your help! : )

What color should I go with for my bouquets?

05 May

the wedding will be in late july, I haven’t picked out the bridesmaid dresses yet but they most likely be navy blue or deep red. I know I’m having Pumpkin colored roses for the reception and the same roses on the pewbows so I know I’ll use pumpkin as one of the colors ‘i just love how the color looks not really trying for fall theme’
I’m going with these bouquets http://www.budget-bride.com/1900.htm
the three flower for the bridesmaids and the most likely the five flower for mine but i’m not sure what colors to pick other then pumpkin I don’t want it to look to dark.

Any ideas would help. I know I have time but this is bugging me the most right now.
I’ve already looked through budget brides thats where I fell for the bouquets i’m going with but the sites lets you choose all your colors and i don’t thats what i’m asking about. I need colors that will look nice with pumpkin but not be to dark look
I’m going with the silk but very nice daisies on the site i have linked above.

20 Apr

We are trying to figure out what color the bridesmaids bouquets should be for a Spring wedding. The bride’s bouquet will be red and white roses exclusively. She does not want the bridesmaids to have roses because of the cost. The bridesmaids dresses are Apple red. Does anyone have any suggestions on colors and/or types of flowers that compliment the bride’s rose bouquet? BTW, the decor for the reception is red and white with artificial flowers. Please help.

Create Rhythm in Your Wedding Bouquets

12 Jan

When you design your do it yourself wedding flowers, you want a sense of rhythm in your bouquets or arrangements.  When there is rhythm, you have movement created by regular repetition of some element or feature of your design.  This movement stirs your emotions.

Rhythm is more often associated with music than with artistic expression.  The movement from musical rhythm can be varied.  It can be slow and  leisurely, smooth and flowing, fast and cheerful, or choppy with abrupt breaks.  Rhythm can be created in your wedding flowers through careful placement of flowers, foliage, and accessories.  You want to create a design where your eyes rest on your focal point and then travel along a visual pathway that travels through your design and then leads you back to your focal point again.  The movement of your eye is created by the rhythm of your design.

You can create rhythm 3 different ways – repetition, radiating lines, and transition.

Repetition
Repetition is probably the easiest way of creating rhythm.  You can repeat colors, textures, shapes and lines.  If you have bright, warm colors throughout your bouquet, your eye will naturally move away from your focal point to elements with the same color.  Texture carefully placed in different places can create soft or subtle rhythm.  repeating lines is the most noticeable way to create movement.  Curved lines cause your eye to move.  Repeated horizontal lines produce a slow, relaxed rhythm whereas vertical and diagonal lines cause your eyes to move rapidly from your focal point to the outer edges and then back again.

Radiating Lines
Lines radiating from your focal point naturally cause your eye to move from your focal point to the perimeter of your bouquet and then back again.  You need to be careful to keep the stems from crossing each other so you don’t interrupt the movement, ruining the rhythm of your design.

Transition
Transition is when you change from one form to another.  You can change from one texture to another or from one color to another.  You do this by having an intermediate color between the 2 points of interest to help your eye naturally move from one color to another.  For example, if you have an area of red and an area of yellow, you can create a transition by placing orange between them to create the visual pathway.

If you can create rhythm in your do it yourself wedding flowers, you will have a bouquet that captivates attention and produces pleasure.

Sophisticated Orange Wedding Bouquets

05 Jan

There tends to be a misconception that orange is only an appropriate color for a Halloween wedding or a rustic one in a barn. In fact, orange can be quite a stylish color, and it conveys a certain sense of confidence that is very appealing. These are design ideas for sophisticated orange wedding bouquets.

When planning wedding bouquets, naturally it all starts with the flowers. There are many flowers available in orange, and they will each create their own special mood. Do not think that the only orange flowers available will be autumnal mums or casual gerbera daisies; some of the most glamorous blossoms of all come in stunning shades of orange. To keep the effect really strong, consider creating bouquets entirely out orange flowers, perhaps with a few accents of a secondary color mixed in for more drama. Purple and lime green will create especially nice contrasts against the orange.

Nothing is more exotic and sophisticated than orchids. Gorgeous orange Vanda orchids look absolutely breathtaking wired into showy bouquets. These are the perfect flower for a bride with exquisite taste who wants something eyecatching and unique for her bouquet. If you love the idea of custom bridal jewelry (perhaps even bridal jewelry custom made with a touch of orange?), handcrafted letterpress invitations, and a couture bridal gown, you will adore marvelous Vanda orchids.

If you are looking for a really romantic orange flower for your wedding, think about ruffly parrot tulips. They make a gorgeous bouquet, one that is chic and upscale. At the same time, parrot tulips look like the type of flower that could be seen spilling out of a vase in an Old Masters painting. They are truly beautiful, and are a great bouquet option for any bride who like tulips, but wants to take them to the next level.

Another sophisticated orange flower for bridal bouquets is the ranunculus. If you are not familiar with this smallish round flower, it is a very circular blossom with tightly packed petals. A ranunculus almost looks like a paper flower, which makes it a very interesting textural addition to a bouquet. These beauties are both sophisticated and non-fussy, making them very versatile for weddings from elegant to relaxed. The ranunculus also pairs nicely with other roundish flowers such as roses.

Speaking of roses, they are a perennial favorite among brides, and they definitely do come in some shades of orange. They range from a light orange to a brighter shade to a rusty terracotta color. Orange can be a fantastic alternative to red for roses in bouquets as they are much more original and unexpected. They have all the fire and passion of red roses, but a more unique character. Combine several sizes of orange roses with hypericum berries for gorgeous bouquets for the entire bridal party.

No discussion of wedding flowers would be complete without talking about lilies. One of the most popular wedding blossoms, big showy lilies add instant flair to a sophisticated bouquet. Especially dramatic are exotic Gloriosa lilies with their large petals. Ideal for Asian inspired bouquets and centerpieces, orange Gloriosa lilies have an unmatched glamor perfect for the bride who really wants something special for her wedding flowers.
