Does anyone have any “cheap” fall wedding ideas as far as centerpieces and favors go?? Or even decorations? I say “cheap” in a sense that it’s inexpensive yet elegant.

Here is one of my ideas for a centerpiece I found. Tell me what you think! Thanks in advance!!!

*B2BJune2010: Love some of those centerpiece ideas. Especially the one with the white pumpkin and fall colored flowers inside!
*Nicole M: Love the idea of carving the table #’s into the pumpkin!!

What are the Pros and Cons of having an autumn wedding?

12 May

My fiance and I finally picked a date… or rather two potential dates. I really really really want it to be next fall, and I really want the reception to be in a barn. Yeah.. I have this all planned out in my head.

Our two potential dates are: October 17, 2010 or November 20, 2010

October 17 because it randomly popped into my head, and November 20 because then it would be in the fall, but we would actually be able to go on a honeymoon afterward, because he will have classes, and November 20 is just before the week of Thanksgiving which falls on a Friday, so I assume he’ll have the week off from school?

Do you think November 20 is like.. a good fall-like time? Or do you think the trees will already be all wintery and it’ll be frigid?

My mom and fiance think having a postponed honeymoon is stupid, so that idea is out.
Oh! Sorry forgot to add we live in New Jersey

Ideas for an autumn themed wedding?

27 Apr

I am wanting to get married in the fall. At first, I wasn’t open to the idea of actually making the season a theme; it just seemed tacky to me. But then I decided on the bridesmaids dresses being red to go with the outdoor pictures, then I must get a matching bouquet of reds, yellows, oranges..etc! Now I’m thinking that perhaps there’s something I can do with the season to make my wedding unique. Anyone have any ideas to make a fall-seasoned wedding more.. seasonal looking?

Can anyone offer some advice on saving money on my outdoor wedding this autumn?

16 Apr

My fiance and I are planning on getting married this autumn, either September or October, in an outdoor venue near where we live. Colors are tangerine and ivory. We are going to have around 50 guests. The venue itself is only $10! However, we will need to rent tents, tables, and chairs. I am looking for some money saving ideas from brides who have been in my situation before. We are paying for everything ourselves, so I need some tips for saving money on food, flowers, favors, etc.

Here are the steps we have taken so far:

1.) DIY Invitation Kit from Michael’s: 30-count, with the invitations, response cards, envelopes, and pretty much everything else you need for about $30, so only about $60 for all our invitations.

http://www.michaels.com/art/online/displ…

2.) Skipping Out on the Expensive Caterer: Since we are from a rural area and we are doing the wedding outside with only about 50 guests, we are catering the wedding ourselves. We are going to grill steak, and chicken and maybe shrimp and have baked potatoes, corn-on-the-cob, vegetable kabobs, and salad. We’re doing the traditional wedding cake, plus “cake balls” and brownies (mint brownies, peanut butter cup brownies, walnut brownies, etc.). We are also not serving alcohol. He does not drink, I will still only be 20, and most of our family members will be drunken rednecks if served free alcohol! We will be serving canned sodas and bottled water.

http://www.do-it-yourself-weddings.com/c…

3.) Small Wedding Party: We only have a few close friends, so we are only going to have one on my side and one on his.

4.) Less Formal Attire: I will be wearing a short dress and he will be in black slacks or khakis and a dress shirt and tie. Neither of us love to dress up and I would hate for us to look uncomfortable on our special day!

5.) More Affordable Rings: My ring will be cubic zirconia and sterling silver. I know it will not hold up for long, but the diamond rings I love are way out of our price range, and we can always get on later in life when we’re more financially stable. He will probably have a carbon fiber ring.

http://www.amazon.com/Sterling-Silver-Zi…

6.) DIY Floral: I just want a simple, hand-tied bouquet. We’re doing gerbera daisies for the bouquet and centerpieces with gerbera daisies in mason/ball jars.

Some things I am still pondering:

We were thinking of maybe skipping on the tent and on ceremony chairs? That $400 could be much better spent on some other element, if you ask me. We will only have about 40 guests, so probably 6 round tables, and we were thinking that we could just arrange the tables in such a way that the guests could sit at them during the ceremony themselves. We aren’t going to have dancing, anyway. Any suggestions?

Thanks so much, guys!
Some details I maybe left out:

Lack of Tent/ Case of Weather: Our outdoor venue is pretty much a park in the middle of nowhere, and there is a church only a quarter mile away from it. Another couple I know who married there moved the wedding to the church last minute when they saw rain on the forecast, no problem. We’re hoping that we would be able to do the same.

Wedding cake: i was planning on only getting a small cake for us to cut for ceremonial purposes and then serving other desserts but THEN my step-mom’s mom offered to bake us one! I’ve seen her work and they’re super simple but elegant and pretty (: We’re planning on having just a plain white one and wrapping orange ribbon around the tiers and putting fresh daisies on it, too. Overkill on the daisies? Haha.
Eh, wedding postponed since we both decided to go back to school, but still planning!. -Sigh- Thanks for all the helpful suggestions! :)

Thanks, guys!
Thanks to Ashely D. for the website suggestion. I have heard of the site before and I will definitely check it out! (:
Typo: Ashley (:
Uzie Suzie, thanks so much for such wonderful ideas! I have been considering the tent issue more and more lately, and I’m thinking it really might be a no. We aren’t even going to have dancing, anyways. What do you think about arranging the tables in a semi-circle formation and having the guests just sit at the tables during the ceremony itself? Just something I’ve been pondering..
theologygirl, Thanks so much for the suggestions! I will definitely check out your blog. I agree about the frozen steaks and chicken. Really, we may not do pork chops at all. Most people wouldn’t miss them with steaks and chicken!

I am partial to fresh flowers, but I found some great prices on sites like costco.com and samsclub.com. We’re thinking of doing mason jars with boquets in them for centerpieces. Gerbera daisies, probably.

(:

Arresting Beauty Of Fall Flowers Speak the Language of Autumn

11 Jan

Fall flowers have a special beauty that makes its own place in the hearts of fall flowers lovers. Generally during the fall the only thing that we get to see around us is foliage. The colors that are dominant are browns and other earthen colors. Shrubs and trees that bear colorful leaves are the only thing that remind us of fall and other autumn related things. But what most people do not know is that flowers also are an important aspect of fall.

What, one may wonder, are the different fall flowers that are ideally suited for decorations for parties and weddings in the fall season?

In the category of fall flowers, Lilies for example set a beautiful background. Mini calla lilies have the most beautiful and the widest variety of colors. They can be matched and set to co-ordinate with different themes. The vibrant colors can be made to suit all kinds of needs and moods.

Marigolds also have a special say in the category of fall flowers. They come in different colors and can be used sensibly to match our needs. There are two main varieties of marigold that showcase the colors of the fall. They come in a mix of red and yellow, and orange which complement the existing browns in the season of fall.

Roses have been the traditional all time favorite among fall flowers, and are most popular for occasions that symbolize love, such as fall weddings and romantic dates. In fact they are available anytime anywhere, and are especially popular with people in love.

Hydrangea is another fall flower that suits the hues of the fall. Hydrangeas have a nice and delicate look that complements the beauty of the fall season. It is the most popular of all the fall wedding flowers that are used in marriage ceremonies and are constantly in demand. The most attractive part about hydrangea is that they are cheaper than most of their cousins.

Fall flowers in their full glory convey a lot of messages. The aggressiveness of the summer and the peacefulness of the winters is combined and shown in the colors of the fall flowers.

Autumn Weddings Make For Romantic Moments

11 Oct

Autumn weddings have a distinct romantic air to them that makes a lot of couples time their own weddings during this season. Is it the nip of the air, or the glorious burst of colors, perhaps? Or maybe, the symbol of endings and beginnings that autumn can easily stand for? Whatever the reason, autumn weddings are especially beautiful.

Autumn Weddings – Additional Touches to Go With the Season

Autumn is the time of the year when trees present themselves in their best appearances. You can actually pick up their colors for your own autumn wedding motif. Your wedding invitations, give-aways/favors, cake and decorations can also be designed with autumn in mind. The wedding entourage can also be clothed with a similar motif, from the color to the designs of the outfits.

You can actually be liberal with touches and highlights reminiscent of the season with your wedding decorations. After all, an autumn wedding should really echo the colors of the season for more drama.

It may not be a straightforward autumn motif. You may have another equally lovely motif in mind. But you can still incorporate hints of autumn into your original plans. A vineyard motif, for example can readily integrate an autumn mood.

Fabric leaves dyed with colors of fall are fantastic highlight or accent pieces to your wedding decorations. Add to this vine garlands with autumn-colored leaves and bunches of grapes and you are on the right track. Other great accent pieces would be wide gold bows and ribbons. Again, to go with the season, you can forgo too much flowers and add more greenery instead. Anyway, there are not much flowers during this season.

For your autumn wedding give-aways or favors, they can be anything wrapped in fall-themed boxes or accented with dyed fabric leaves or leaf-shaped cookies with autumn colors.

Autumn Weddings – The Bridal Gown and the Setting

If you have settled for the autumn colors – varying degrees of reds, oranges, browns and yellows, it is wise to forego the traditional virginal white and go for ivory or off-white material for your wedding gown. This blends well with the over-all motif.

As for the venue or setting of your autumn wedding, look for something that is elegant but not flashy. An old church would be a good idea. Or, to take advantage of the cool, dry season, you can have an outdoor wedding somewhere in the heart of a vineyard, an elegant garden or even an orchard. Settings like these bring out the best effect of your autumn wedding in the photos.

The idea is for the wedding to reflect the spirit of the season and remind everyone that you are getting married in this time of the year when nature is at its best.

Autumn Wedding Floral Arrangements

06 Oct

Flowers are symbols of eternal life in many different religions, cultures, and traditions. So why not bring them into your wedding to show everyone how you are now eternally bonded to your new spouse. Flowers used as decorations at your wedding will show everyone that you truly understand what it is to be in love and, very soon, in a marriage of never ending trust, love, forgiveness, and support. The flowers will affirm everyone’s faith in you and your new spouse while adding brilliant color, scents, and patterns to your precious wedding décor. Floral arrangements often inspire some kind of emotional or mental response or process based on their smell, feel, color, look, blossoms, leaves, textures, or anything else you can think of that you notice on a flower. The fact that certain flowers evoke certain feelings is an explication of the reason why you would want a themed floral arrangement; especially if you are having a themed wedding. Autumn is known for rich colors, crisp air, and romantic escapades. You can bring the colors and feelings of autumn directly into your wedding reception with some great floral arrangement that use all of the season’s natural beauty to your advantage and work fantastically with your well planned wedding decorations and themes. A Dazzling Autumn Wedding Bouquet Can Be Made Out Of Deep Coloured Flowers

10 Sep

Autumn is visually a glorious time of year when you can feast your eyes on the changing colours from green to amber, yellow, red and orange. The temperatures might be dropping and the days getting shorter, but this seems to help intensify those deep shades, as the foliage dies. If you are lucky enough to have a wedding during this picturesque time of year it would be a shame not to take advantage of these beautiful colours and use them to make a beautiful autumn wedding bouquet.

Do not try and use unseasonal flowers for your autumn wedding bouquet, this will give you added expense and effort in trying to get a summery or spring feel to your wedding. The autumn wedding bouquet should incorporate lots of greens and deep browns and flowers that are readily available at this time of year. Trust your imagination and come up with some truly memorable combinations of colours for your autumn wedding bouquet.

The Versatility Of Red Flowers

If there was one flower more popular that any other it would be the red rose, and it is especially favoured in wedding bouquets at all times of the year. This is to do with its romantic connotations and intrinsic beauty. The red rose is perceived as the embodiment of the classic style and can be used in your autumn wedding bouquet; one should remember there are other beautiful red flowers that can add a deep splash of colour; examples of these flowers include mums, asiatic lilies, bird-of-paradise, carnations, asters and red gerbera daisies. Any of these will help to give an inspired look to your autumn wedding bouquet.

Yellow Flowers To Lift The Dark Colours

If you feel that your autumn wedding bouquet is becoming too dark try and offset this by using yellow or golden flowers these will light up the dark colours and compliment them at the same time. Yellow is seen as a happy colour, especially with its association with the sun and warmth. Some good examples of flowers to use in your autumn wedding bouquets are orchids, crocuses, sunflowers, hollyhocks, daisies and yellow roses.

Remember Orange Hues To Increase The Spectrum of Colour

Orange lies in the colour spectrum between yellow and those deep colours in your autumn wedding bouquet. So if you decide on orange colours, they have a range from rust to peachy hues which will give you enough choice to visually connect the deep colours with the more vibrant yellows. Some orange flowers to bear in mind include: tiger lilies, roses, calla lilies, orchids and daisies.

Tying Your Autumn Wedding Bouquet Together With The Fillers

Crucial to an arrangement holding together are the fillers, without the proper fillers the overall effect can be disastrous. Obviously the fillers used in your autumn wedding bouquet are going to be completely different from those you would use in the summer. To be creative try and intertwine leaves and red berries to create a garland which you can use in your autumn wedding bouquet. All sorts of objects that are used in Christmas decoration, such as copper beach branches, painted pine cones and twigs can also help to consolidate your autumn wedding bouquet and increase its dramatic effect.

Autumn should inspire you to produce a solid and classical look, with depth to impress anyone with both its subtlety and splendour, and not forgetting a touch of whimsy, when putting together an autumn wedding bouquet.
