The cheapest way would be to,put disposable cameras on all your guests tables and then print their experiences of the day,its hilarious too.

Get a friend to do it. If you have a friend who’s very good at taking pictures (and not bossy) get them to do it. I really, really wish I had. We got a real photogropher, and we paid 10 times as much as we should have, and the pictures weren’t that good, and we could only get copies from her. My cousin also took pictures, and they were better, and she gave us a CD with all of them on it so we could print them out. If not there, try like at an art school or something. You might get someone who’s not a snotty wanna-be artist.

GO on Craigslist.com and post an add. There are a lot of people willing to do it for free for if you let them have some of the photos for there portfolio.

    Yikes!
Remember, you get what you pay for.
You may want to try a small local newspaper… there may be a photographer on-staff who does this on the side.
Also check local camera shops, they see photographers all the time and may be able to point you in the right direction.
Short of anything else, handout a bunch of disposable cameras and let your guests be in charge of your wedding photos… it could be fun… or a disaster.
    Best of luck!

Contact your local university’s photojournalism department and talk to someone there if any students would be willing to shoot your wedding for extra income.

Well look up your friends, relatives or future relatives see if one of them can take pictures and hire him or her. Also if you want buy alot of disposalble cameras and encourage your guests to take as many pictures of the wedding as they can and have a drop box for when the cameras or full.

I would go with the art student or hire a photographer from one of the newpapers if you want a photojournalistic style. You really can’t recreate your wedding photos so you want someone professional. Look at their books and get names of weddings they recently worked on. Call those brides and see if they were satisfied before hiring them.

I wouldn’t reccomend the cameras on the tables as your only source for pictures. People will bring their digital cameras anyway most likely. The problem with the disposables is the flash doesn’t always go off so the pictures are dark, kids get ahold of them and you have a roll of 36 pics of their parents, and guests get tipsy and think its cute to take pictures of butts, under the table, and get fingertips in the shots. I used to work in Wallgreens photo developing and I can’t even count how many times brides were in tears because this happend.

If you do go that route buy the regular disposables not the “wedding cameras”. The picture quality is much better.
Also make sure that negatives or proofs are included in your price or you will end up like John. Some photographers don’t charge much for actually taking the pictures but will ream you when you order the prints because the proofs were not included in the contract so you have to go through them. Don’t fall for this tact. It is better to pay a little more upfront and be able to make as many copies as you want anywhere you find a good price than pay $40 a piece for prints later.

I don’t live near you. But when we were looking for a cheaper photographer we ended up finding someone by word of mouth. Expressed our financial concerns and we were referred to a photographer that is just starting out, but is completely reasonable in comparison to the others we’ve looked at. Ask around your area is my only suggestion. Sorry!!!

Okay, I’m chiming in. I’m a professional wedding photographer and I have a few suggestions.

One is DO NOT buy the throw aways camera. They are good for the table guests that are at that table. Three feet distance and then you get nothing. Dark or grainy.

Do look up http://www.ppa.com and see who is in your area. Go to the consumer area and then to “find a photographer”. When you call around explain your budget up front.

Unfortuantley you do get what you pay for. You need to interview various photographers. Go to their studio. Make sure they can actaully take pictures. I’m not so thrilled with the photojouranlist student idea. Taking pictures for a wedding is a whole different animal. Maybe someone at the local paper like another answer suggested but ONLY if they have a reputation for taking weddings on the side.

If you only have a few hundred dollars then you won’t find a professional. Find an uncle or close friend who can shoot it for you. If you can spend $1500 or more then you should get a seasoned professional. Look for one that will give you an album afterward.

After the cake is eaten, the flowers dried, your dress put away what you come away with after the wedding is each other and your pictures. Be wise and careful in who you chose. Interview, interview. There are three factors, is the date available (and your date is the most booked date this year. My studio is doing three that day), will your get all you want for your budget and what they charge AND do you actally like the photographer. That is so important.,

If your budge ends up being that you need to get a friend with a great digital camera to shoot you can feel free to email me and I’ll give them tips on shots to get and how to do it. My email address can be found at http://www.hollowaysphotography.com.
    Congratuations.

she is actually based in englewood (near denver). she is my wedding photographer. we haven’t had our wedding yet, but we’ve had our engagement session and the pictures turned out nice.

I don’t know what affordable means to you, but I consider her affordable. she is doing our wedding plus engagement session for about $1200 and we get the rights to the pictures, meaning we get them on CD in color and in black and white, which is a huge savings–you can print them up yourself.

Less than a month to look for a photographer isn’t a lot of time. You should try looking at http://www.pictage.com and going through those who post their information there. If that doesn’t work, I’m sure there is a local college student who has done weddings before and would like to add to their portfolio. Send some emails and do some looking – advisors are always willing to recommend students.
